Dates for 2023 Season

Dicks Sporting Goods - Dicks will provide 20% discounts for NYO families in between July 28th and July 31st.  It is suggested that helmets and shoulder pads be purchased prior to these dates due to equipment shortages..

Coaches Clinic for tackle leagues – Sunday, July 30, 2023 – 4:30 to 6:30       (This instructional event is for coaches only)

Coaches Clinic for flag leagues - Sunday, July 30, 2023 - 3:00 to 5:00      (This instructional event is for coaches only)

Training Camp – August 1, 2023 through August 3, 2023  (Flag players do NOT attend)
The objective of Training Camp is to enhance player safety by providing focused instruction on proper techniques, light conditioning and heat acclimation before tryouts.  Training Camp session will be led by NYO coaches. Detailed instructions will be sent to parents in advance of this function.

Tryouts – Saturday, August 5, 2023
Specific details for parents about tryouts will appear on the NYO website in July.  Players will be divided into groups based on grade as to what time they will attend during the morning or early afternoon .  Parents will receive instructions by email shortly before tryouts about their specific arrival time and this information will also be available through NYO’s website. Players are to wear full football equipment. They will be weighed, timed and evaluated in full-contact drills.  Details about this event will be posted on this by no later than July 31st.

Make up Tryout – August 8, 2023 at 5:00 PM
This will be for those players who were unable to attend the tryouts on August 5th. Players must attend either the Tryout on August 5th or August 8th in order to be eligible for the draft and participate in the NYO season.

Parent Meeting – August 12, 2023 at 2:00 in the gym at NYO.  All parents are to attend this important meeting which will emphasize player safety information. Speakers will include a medical professional from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s sports medicine practice. There will be an opportunity for questions and answers.

Drafts – August 13, 2023 and August 14, 2023.  Beginning with the 2nd  grade league players are assigned to teams by means of a draft.  Only coaches attend the drafts which occur on these dates.  Parents will be notified shortly following the draft by the coach who drafted their child to communicate the practice plans for the team.  Please assume practices will commence immediately.

Meeting for Team Moms and Team Dads - For those parents who volunteer to be the Team Mom or Team Dads of their child's team please plan to meet within the Dowis Building at NYO on Monday, August 21, 2023.  Team Moms & Team Dads for the 3rd grade, 4th grade and Bigs league will meet at 9:00 AM.   At 10:15 AM the Team Moms and Team Dads associated with both flag leagues will meet.

Games Begin – Games begin on September 5, 2023.

Character Speaker Event / Opening Night Celebration on September 10, 2023 / 5:00 PM - The date of this event may be reschedule.  All players and their families from all leagues should attend this popular function. Practices will not be allowed during this evening.  Following the speaker the Cheer Leaders will put on a show before all the Bigs football and cheer leading teams are introduced for a fun Sunday night Bigs game.

K & 1st Grade League Tournament - All K&1st teams will participate in a fun tournament which will begin Friday, November 3, 2023 and continue throughout most of Saturday, November 4, 2023.

Championship Games – Monday, November 13, 2023 -  The playoffs will conclude with the championship games for all leagues on this date.

Peach Bowl – Thursday, November 16, 2023 All star games for players in grade 3rd and above.
