NYO CHEER

NYO REGISTRATION FOR FALL 2026 HAS CLOSED.  We had an incredible response to the program with over 600 signing up during the registration opening.  Unfortunately there are limitations to the number of participants we can accept due to multiple various factors.  Because of this, our waitlist is at capacity and we are unable to accept any further registrations.  We know this is disappointing and truly wish we had the capacity for all.  We hope you’ll consider joining us next year—we would love to have you be a part of NYO Cheer.

NYO CHEER OVERVIEW:

NYO Cheer is a comprehensive recreational cheer program that introduces athletes to all aspects of cheerleading in a fun, structured, and supportive environment. In conjunction with NYO’s overall mission, our program is designed to build confidence, teamwork, and fundamental cheer skills while emphasizing participation, sportsmanship, and personal growth.

Each squad practices at least once per week and is paired with an assigned football team to cheer for one game per week once the season begins.  Cheerleaders gain real game-day experience while learning the importance of commitment, teamwork, and team spirit.

At NYO Cheer, participants will:

  • Learn the fundamentals of cheerleading, including motions, jumps, and age-appropriate stunts at weekly practices

  • Learn sideline chants, cheers, dances, and routines

  • Participate in a season opening cheer clinic and weekly practices

  • Cheer on the sidelines at football games and perform at halftimes

  • Participate in a season-ending cheer competition that celebrates teamwork, effort, and skill development

As a recreational league, NYO Cheer focuses on skill progression, safety, and fun—creating an inclusive environment where cheerleaders of all experience levels can thrive. Our goal is for every athlete to leave the season more confident, more skilled, and proud to be part of a team, while developing a strong foundation for future cheer opportunities.

PROGRAM DETAILS:

LEAGUES:

  • Littles -- K-2nd grade

  • Bigs -- 3rd-5th grade

  • *Seniors -- 6th-8th grade

*Please note that unlike some years past, there will be multiple Seniors squads which will function like typical squads.  Senior squads will have weekly practices, cheer at football games for an assigned football team, participate in the cheer off, etc.  Participation in the Seniors League is an excellent way for cheerleaders to enhance their cheer skills and prepare for Middle or High School Cheer!

SEASON: August - November

COMMITMENT:  Cheer is considered a primary fall sport at NYO.  Squads practice at least once per week, some squads practice twice per week especially as the Cheer Off approaches.  There is also one game per week once the season starts.  Cheerleaders are expected to attend all practices and games.

REGISTRATION PROCESS:

All cheerleaders (returning and new) will automatically go to a WAITLIST when you register.  After registration closes, the NYO cheerleading committee will begin reviewing the registration list.  You will be notified via email when you are moved off the waitlist and will have 48 hrs to complete registration with payment to secure your spot.  All cheerleaders will be notified of their selection off the waitlist by uniform try-ons on April 27th.  The selection process will only be based on the following criteria:

  • Timestamp of Registration (first come/first served)

  • A ratio of Returning and New cheerleaders

  • The number of squads available per League - which is contingent on the number of Volunteer Coaches and anticipated Football Teams

  • A max number of Cheerleaders per squad

  • Squads balanced with an equitable mix of participants per grades

REQUIRED ACCEPTANCE PROCESS:  As already mentioned, once a Cheerleader is accepted off the waitlist you will receive an email, families will have 48 hours to process payment in order to secure a spot.  Please accept and pay ASAP so that you do not lose your spot.  You will be notified of acceptance into the program by uniform try ons on April 27th. We will let everyone know when all spots have been filled by April 27th. Please do not contact NYO to request updates on your registration - we will not be able to respond to these inquiries.

REFUNDS:  100% refunds are eligible until Uniform orders are placed (at the end of May).  After uniforms have been ordered and before squads are announced, a partial refund can be received (registration minus the admin fee and uniform cost). There will be no refunds after squads are announced.

SIBLING REQUESTS:  Sibling requests (for squads and/or football teams) may be submitted during registration and will be highly considered when possible, but cannot be guaranteed if league grade restrictions or unforeseen circumstances occur.

FRIEND REQUESTS:  NYO Cheer will foster the attempt of familiar faces on squads, but similar to other NYO sports will NOT seek specific friend requests. Instead, Cheer will use schools and/or zip codes to encourage familiarity and/or logistics, also while maintaining that there are no guarantees for either.  In all cases, we encourage the families to embrace the opportunity to build new friendships in the community!

SQUADS:  Squads will be released the week of August 17th.  NYO Cheer functions in hand with the structure of NYO Football, our squads are contingent on the football teams.  Thus, we are unable to release Squads until football teams are announced.  There will be no adjustments made for any reason to any squads after announced.
