NYO CHEER OVERVIEW:
NYO Cheer is a comprehensive recreational cheer program that introduces athletes to all aspects of cheerleading in a fun, structured, and supportive environment. In conjunction with NYO’s overall mission, our program is designed to build confidence, teamwork, and fundamental cheer skills while emphasizing participation, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
Each squad practices at least once per week and is paired with an assigned football team to cheer for once the season begins. Cheerleaders gain real game-day experience while learning the importance of commitment, teamwork, and team spirit.
At NYO Cheer, participants will:
Learn the fundamentals of cheerleading, including motions, jumps, and age-appropriate stunts at weekly practices
Learn sideline chants, cheers, dances, and routines
Participate in a season opening cheer clinic and weekly practices
Cheer on the sidelines at football games and perform at halftimes
Participate in a season-ending cheer competition that celebrates teamwork, effort, and skill development
As a recreational league, NYO Cheer focuses on skill progression, safety, and fun—creating an inclusive environment where cheerleaders of all experience levels can thrive. Our goal is for every athlete to leave the season more confident, more skilled, and proud to be part of a team, while developing a strong foundation for future cheer opportunities.

LEAGUES:
*Please note that unlike some years past, there will be multiple Seniors squads which will function like typical squads. Senior squads will have weekly practices, cheer at football games for an assigned football team, participate in the cheer off, etc. Participation in the Seniors League is an excellent way for cheerleaders to enhance their cheer skills and prepare for Middle or High School Cheer!

SEASON: August - November (remove year)
EXPECTATIONS: This is a sport and both practice and games are MANDATORY
REGISTRATION PROCESS:
ALL Cheerleaders (Returning and New) will automatically go to a WAITLIST when you register. After registration closes, the NYO cheerleading committee will begin reviewing the registration list. You will be notified via email when you are moved off the waitlist and will have 48 hrs to complete registration with payment to secure your spot. All cheerleaders will be notified of their selection off the waitlist by uniform try-ons. The selection process will only be based on the following criteria:
Timestamp of Registration (first come/first served)
A ratio of Returning and New cheerleaders
The number of squads available per League - which is contingent on the number of Volunteer Coaches and anticipated Football Teams
An appropriate number of Cheerleaders per squad
Squads balanced with an equitable mix of participants per age/grades
REQUIRED Acceptance Payment Process: As already mentioned, once a Cheerleader is accepted off the waitlist you will receive an email, families will have 48 hours to process payment in order to secure a spot. Please accept and pay ASAP so that you do not lose your spot.
Friend Requests: NYO Cheer will foster the attempt of familiar faces on squads, but will not seek specific friend requests. Instead, Cheer will use schools and/or zip codes to encourage familiarity and/or logistics, also while maintaining that there are no guarantees for either. In all cases, we encourage the families to embrace the opportunity to build new friendships in the community!
