The NYO majors Lions, coached by Jeff Allred, continued their undefeated season by defeating the skilled Scots, coached by Tyler Reams, 27-20 in the majors championship game last night. The Scots had finished 2nd in the regular season, and this Lions-Scots finals battle was eagerly anticipated by the league.
The Lions, behind the clever shot-making of Ellie Warren, jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, only to watch the relentless Scots, behind Henly Blackburn, tie them up at 8-8 and set the tone for a battle the rest of the game.
The key moments in the game occurred in the 3rd quarter, and the Lions used baskets by Kate Kennedy, Allison Rawls, Natalie Brown and Warren to build a comfortable margin which they held onto the rest of the game, despite relentless pressure by the Scots, who were supported with scoring by Isla Page and Lucy Reams.
It was a game that all 16 players and their coaches should be proud of; every player worked hard for every second they were on the court. It was a fitting end to a great season of NYO girls basketball.
