2009 Summer Baseball - The Big Picture
As we head into the 4th of July weekend, it's a good time to recap what NYO has accomplished this summer and what's left for the next two weeks. We've had 18 teams criss-crossing the state and the Southeast (for some of our older teams). What always make us most proud are the stories of good sportsmanship and camaraderie that embodies the NYO summer program. As most of you know, our goal is not to just go out and win trophies. That would be too simple. Our main focus is on challenging the kids to play against teams and in tournaments that will bring out their best. While our teams have brought home a good bit of hardware this summer, we're particularly thrilled when we see a team make a deep run into a tournament where we're playing with the best teams the state has to offer. So while the myriad of different locations and different sanctioning bodies can get confusing, rest assured that our overall plan of keeping all the kids playing with us during the spring and then sending them out and about for the summer is working better than we could have even imagined when we energized the summer program 8 years ago.

NYO Drillers (11u) Reach Semi-Finals in 2009 Battle at the Beach in Panama City
The NYO Drillers packed their bags and headed to the shore for the 2009 Battle at the Beach Tournament in Panama City, Florida. The Drillers faced the Bay Bombers and the Suwanee Stix in pool play. I am sure that I speak for everyone that it is best not to articulate the Drillers performance in pool play. Having finished 0-2 and scoring a meager 8 runs, the Drillers were seeded as the #20 seed.

10U RedHawks Flock to Savannah with Mixed Results
The 10U RedHawks headed south to Savannah this past weekend to play in the Triple Crown Savannah Summer Slam.
The Redhawks first opponent on Saturday was the home team and highly ranked Chain Dirt Dawgs. The Dirt Dawgs jumped out early and never looked back. They hit the ball well, played good defense and they were also able to capitalize on some RedHawk defensive miscues. The Redhawks rallied in the 2nd inning with a leadoff single from Evan Rottner and huge double from John Beckley.
