Each season, NYO presents the Butch Dean PCA Coach of the Year award to a deserving coach in each of our NYO Boys basketball leagues as a testament to positive coaching.  This award goes to the coach in each league who has best shown and stressed the NYO core virtues of sportsmanship, fair-play and teaching skills for all his/her players over the course of the season. The Award is for coaches put their hearts into developing each and every one of the 8 or 9 players on their team. Furthermore, the award is for coaches who meet their team’s victories and defeats with the same level of grace and enthusiasm! NYO basketball is about FUN, a positive, rewarding experience, and the love of the game.

The recipient in each league is selected by a vote amongst his/her fellow coaches. The winners for the 2013-14 NYO Boys Basketball season were as follows:

**UPDATE**Thanks to all those who have registered for the camp.  At this time, the camp is FULL an no more spaces are available.

The Holidays are approaching rapidly and it’s time again for Matt Harpring’s Annual Basketball Clinic. This is the 4th year that we are holding this clinic and expect to have kids from many area schools attend. It will be a 2 day clinic this year – Monday & Tuesday (December 22nd & 23rd) from 8:30am – 3:30pm and will be held at the NYO Gym at Chastain Park. Campers will learn basketball skills/fundamentals and team work while still having fun. Matt will be conducting the camp using the same format as he does during his summer basketball camps, which he has been doing for over 13 years. Below are the details and needed information about the clinic.

The regualr season of NYO basketball has wrapped up, with the play-offs, and NYO's version of March madness, now on tap.  Most leagues will end their season with a single elimination play-off tournament, involving all of the teams in that league.  The Majors; X-League; and Seniors championship will be held consecutively on Saturday, February 22, in the Chastain gym, as we celebrate "Championship Week-End."  More details on those games will follow.

The A League NYO Dawgs verses the A League NYO Gators seemed to embrace a lot of what NYO stands for - hard work, determination, and a winning attitude coupled with great sportsmanship.  The game was won in overtime by 1 point by a team that mounted a tremendous comeback. But in my mind, both teams were winners as fans, coaches and these 8 -9 year old boys created a contagious spirit that permeated the NYO gym.  The few tears shed by the loosing team quickly evaporated when players on both sides exchanged high fives. Parents watching in the stands could only marvel at the maturity displayed on both sides.  It was no doubt a "feel good" moment and symbolic of the quality and character of the program we strive for at NYO.  As we head into playoffs, we hope you and your family truly enjoyed your NYO basketball season. -WK
